Meet Susi

Meet Susi Lodola

MSc (MIACP), Clinical Director

I help my clients explore and understand what they are experiencing and how it is impacting their emotional, physical and mental wellbeing. During therapy, I will help them to develop the skills and behaviours to find a way to cope with their challenges and find direction in life.

I am a fully accredited member of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and a graduate member of the Irish Psychological Society. My extensive studies in psychology, psychotherapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) enable me to approach each client holistically and tailor the counselling style to their individual needs and circumstances.

I apply an integrative approach to therapy that acknowledges the unique nature of the individual and use different elements of specific psychological therapies to meet their specific needs.

In addition to my practice as a therapist, I also lecture in Psychotherapy and  hold a Diploma in Supervision, allowing me to mentor and support other psychotherapists in their professional development.

Founder of the “Mind over Body weight loss programme” which is an 8-week course based on CBT for weight loss.

Education

I hold a Master of Science in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing, a Higher Diploma in Psychology (level 8) and a BA (Hons) in Linguistics, from UCD, a BA (First Class Honours) in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy from IICP College (Dublin), a Professional Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Professional Certificate in Child and Adolescent Counselling and a Diploma in Clinical Supervision.

I continuously update my skills in light of expanding knowledge about human development and change. It is important to me to keep abreast of relevant research findings into the processes and outcomes of counselling.

During my training, I worked with a broad range of clients including adults, children and teens on a wide range of issues. I also worked with AWARE as a volunteer from 2012 until 2016 as a supporter for the Life Skills Online Program. This programme used Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to help people with depression and anxiety.

To deepen her knowledge on how CBT can be applied to help with weight management, Susi attended a specialized workshop at the Beck Institute in Philadelphia. The Beck institute is at the forefront of international research and training in CBT, and Dr Judith Beck is the author and founder of the Beck Diet Solution.

Some more Background Information

In addition to my psychotherapy clinic, I also give talks in companies on wellbeing in the workplace, delivering workshops and seminars. Some of the topics and services I offer are dealing with anxiety and stress and teaching mindfulness.

My workshops include coaching employees through my “Self-help life skills” programme, which empowers individuals to take action and make positive changes in their life. I also give talks in colleges  helping students deal with exam stress.

I have worked as I volunteer for AWARE for a number of years as a supporter for their “Life Skills Online programme”. This programme provides a free CBT course helping people through anxiety and depression. As part of the AWARE team, I was invited to meet president Higgins to celebrate AWARE’s 30th anniversary.

In 2018 I organised a charity event “Jumping for Health” which raised over €17000 for the Irish Cancer Society and we were invited to Minister Simon Harris’s office to hand over the cheque the Irish Cancer Society.

I am a regular contributor to articles in the Irish Times on various mental health issues and have also featured in the Irish Independent, Irish Daily Mail and Irish Daily Star, as well as on Matt Cooper, Today FM and Dublin City FM, and have been a contributor on “Ireland AM” on various topics around mental health.

Susi is the author of the “Mind over Body Weight Management Programme ™”, which is based on Cognitive behaviour therapy and addresses binge eating, disordered eating and self -sabotage.

The programme’s focus is on behaviour changes that lead to a healthy lifestyle and on helping you to increase your self-belief and self-confidence.

Susi has a wealth of experience in working with clients helping them manage their weight based on her own weight loss experiences combined with her extensive studies in Psychology and Psychotherapy.

She is now training health professionals, such as Psychotherapists, Nutritionists and Health & Fitness coaches who work with clients who want to overcome binge eating, disordered eating and who want to come off the diet roller coaster.

Susi has completed her Masters in CBT & Motivational Interviewing and received first-class Honors on her dissertation on applying CBT & MI to weight management.

Speaking on Ireland AM about dealing with “fussy eaters”

It can be frustrating for parents and care givers when a child doesn’t eat or avoids some food groups altogether. You can read some more on the topic in one of my blog posts.

Speaking on Ireland AM about Post Natal Depression

Post Natal Depression often goes diagnosed. Speaking about the topic will help raise awareness and will help to normalise it and help to remove any stigma associated with it. Many new Mums or Dads may feel guilty about feeling low after a Baby is born and therefore do not speak up and seek help. Counselling is very effective in helping people overcome PND and the sooner it is addressed the better the outcome.
